Navigating the ICU: Monitoring Equipment, Tubes, Lines, and Drains

Treating highly acute patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) or similar settings requires an understanding of how to interpret and assess information from monitors and navigate lines, tubes, and other equipment. With a constant flow of information from monitoring equipment, you are able to determine if your patient is safe to participate, how to prescribe the appropriate intensity, and when to pause an intervention to ensure a patient's safe recovery. In this course, you will learn how to recognize different lines, tubes, and drains, as well as considerations and precautions for managing patients with these devices. Learners will also gain a basic understanding of how to read monitors and determine if therapy is safe to initiate, and when to increase or decrease intensity of treatment or to defer.
