ADHD in Pediatric Clients: An Overview for SLPs

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, or CDC (2022b) estimate almost 10% of all American children have been diagnosed with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD. This module provides speech-language pathologists with an overview of the pathophysiology of ADHD with a focus on the clinical presentation and impact on a pediatric client’s treatment plan. Learners will understand the signs and symptoms of ADHD and discriminate it from other diagnoses often mislabeled as ADHD, such as bipolar disorder and anxiety. Evidence-based interventions are presented for the therapist to employ or recommend to caregivers of children with ADHD.

The goal of this course is to teach speech-language pathologists in medical settings how to differentiate symptoms of ADHD in pediatric clients.
